Phototherapy: the use of light to treat a variety of conditions, is not new and has been researched for well over 100 years. It has mainly been confined to ultraviolet wavelengths for its antibacterial properties. With the advent of LASER and Light Emitting Diodes, treatment in the visible spectrum and its fringes has gained credence both from research and through anecdotally reported results. This book aims to look at its application along with the theory and science underpinning its use in clinical practice. It will also suggest some explanations of how cellular structures are directly affected.
Pulsed Magnetic Therapy : has developed from its infancy in assisting fracture repair to wider applications based on sound research. It is an adjunct to physiotherapy in medical practice but is now widely accepted and extensively used in the veterinary world to assist in the repair and recovery for a broad range of conditions. The theory and science behind its use and application has been little understood and confusion with static magnets limited its credibility. This book aims to clear up some of the misconceptions and provide a logical explanation as to how dynamic magnetic fields affect tissue and how such affects aid the repair processes that are natural within the body.
The following is an excerpt from a review of the phototherapy book by an eminent retired professor and multi-published author, book and research reviewer:
"Here are a few notes on your most recent text on Phototherapy.
I thought it a well written text. It was clear and engaging. Your illustrations were simple and informative and it was good to have a list of them for reference,
I liked the overall structure of beginning with practical aspects and then proceeding to the theoretical aspects and ending with caveats and further reading. . It was the right approach for your potential readers. I liked too the structure of beginning each chapter with an overview. As an aside, the sentence on p18 made me chuckle:
“good practice throughout will probably allow for a long life for the therapist, patient and equipment.”
You have the knack of cross-referring backwards and forwards without interfering with the flow of your discussion. Your analogies and examples from everyday life were apposite and helped an oldie like me.
As you might expect, I found the later chapters hard going since it is over 60 years ago since I read physics and engineering, but I could follow your argument and reasoning and I found particularly helpful the final sections of your chapters. Your explanation of the possible reason why acupuncture works was revealing and it prompted the thought that you should explore which journal might be interested in reviewing your books and/or publishing research notes or papers by you. Your final chapter could be the core of a review.
